Using the computer for everyday activities makes common tasks easier, brings you in contact with many friends and those with like interests, and is an instant Library to discover new facts.
My February 2011 blog will get you going learning some computer basics. I have personally reviewed the tutorial sites and selected the ones that cover the fundamentals without overwhelming you with minute details.
I want learners to learn how to learn and not be dependent on others to constantly be assisting them.
Scan the contents of this blog and you are welcomed to make comments as I have not fully developed every topic. Be nice!

Welcome
This blog is intended to be a tool in helping you learn how you can do many everyday activities easier with some basic computer knowledge. There are many websites that have some great tutorials and you will find links to some of them on this blog. As you progress you will be learning "computer" talk as you encounter many terms that at first you will not recognize.
This site relies heavily on material that is readily available on the Internet. GFCLearnFree is the primary site that is referenced. It is well written and has some excellent tutorials. These tutorials cover the latest versions of many software programs well as the older versions. It also covers many non-computer subjects that are encountered in everyday living.
Another excellent site is In Pictures. As the name implies it relies heavily on learning through the use of many pictures. As of June 2011, it had tutorials for many software applications through the 2007 versions. This site is great for additional instructions or to learn from a different approach.
Another great resource is the reference guides available for free download at Custom Guides. They provide short guidance on the most used commands.
It is extremely important to learn how find help when you run into a snag. Most applications have a "Help" section that contains a manual and an index search. "Help" is extremely useful as you become more knowledgeable in computers. Another source of information is online searches for answers to your questions. As you will discover the online tutorials are a great way to learn.
Computer users will find there is something new to learn everyday. That is one thing that makes computers exciting.
